In Afghanistan

Moments I will never forget

A few frames from my time in Afghanistan. This is the energy of the trip, real life, real people, real places.

Why this trip

Afghanistan as I have experienced it

This journey is built around trust, relationships, and the everyday Afghanistan most people never get to see.

I know what you have been told about Afghanistan. I heard it too. Then I went, and what I found was a place that felt human in a way that surprised me. Hospitality that does not ask who you are first. Tea that shows up before questions do.

We will see major history, yes, but we will also spend time in neighborhoods, markets, and moments that cannot be staged. The goal is for you to leave with context, not content for shock value.

If you have ever wanted to understand a place beyond the headlines, this is that door. We move respectfully, we move slowly, and we move with people who call it home.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask about Afghanistan

These are the real questions. Safety, what to wear, visas, flights, and how the trip works on the ground. If you still have concerns, ask them in your application.

Is this trip safe
I will never promise “perfect safety” anywhere. What I can promise is a serious approach. We travel with trusted local partners, use vetted drivers and routes, keep a low profile, and adjust plans in real time based on local conditions. If something does not feel right, we do not force it. Safety comes before itinerary.
What areas do we visit and do we move around with security
The route is built around places that make sense for culture and logistics, typically Kabul and the central highlands like Bamiyan and Band e Amir. That said, some of the best moments are the unplanned ones. If a spontaneous opportunity comes up like getting a haircut, visiting a local shop, stopping for tea, or saying yes to a respectful local invitation, just tell me. If it is safe and appropriate, I will do my best to make it happen and I will be with you every step of the way. Final routing can shift if local conditions change.
Do you accept solo travelers
Yes. Most people will likely apply solo. You will share a room with another guest by default unless you request a single room upgrade, which is limited and costs extra.
What should I wear as a man
Think respectful and simple. Long pants, long sleeves most days, neutral colors, and comfortable closed toe shoes. Avoid flashy logos. Of course, I want you to be comfortable. There will also be an opportunity to get some local attire.
What should I wear as a woman
Modest clothing is essential. Long loose pants or a long skirt, long sleeves, and a headscarf for public spaces. I will not “police” what you wear, but just ensure it’s appropriate.
Can women join this trip
Yes and if you are a woman applying, use the application to tell me your comfort level and travel experience and we can talk it through.
How do visas work
You are responsible for obtaining your visa, but you will not be doing it alone. After acceptance, you will receive a step by step guide that explains the typical process, timing, required documents, and what has worked for past travelers. Visa situations can change, so guidance is always specific to your passport and current conditions.
What flights should I book and when should I book them
Do not book flights until you are accepted. After acceptance, I will share recommended arrival and departure windows, airport details, and routing tips. You book your own flights, but you will have clear guidance so everyone arrives within the pickup window.
Is travel insurance required
Yes, travel insurance is required to join. It should cover medical care, emergency evacuation, and trip interruption. If you are not sure what to buy, I will tell you what coverage level to look for so you do not guess.
What is the group size and who is this trip for
This is a small group trip by design. It is for curious travelers who want to experience Afghanistan first-hand.
How much spending money should I bring and how do payments work
You will want cash for personal expenses like snacks, souvenirs, tips, and extra drinks. Card use can be limited, and ATMs are not something we rely on. After acceptance, I will share a realistic daily cash range based on the final inclusions and current prices.
Will I have internet and cell service
You will have connectivity in many areas, but it is not guaranteed everywhere. We will set up a group WhatsApp chat and I will share SIM guidance after acceptance. Expect some slow spots. That is normal.
Can I bring a camera and film everything
Yes, and we will discuss the do’s and don’t in greater detail before our departure.
What if the itinerary changes while we are there
Flexibility is part of responsible travel in Afghanistan. If something shifts, we pivot with local partners and choose the safest option. The goal stays the same: culture, connection, fun, and context, without forcing anything.
What is included vs not included
Your trip inclusions are listed on this page and in the PDF. In general, we cover in country transportation, lodging, guides, and key logistics. You handle international flights, visa fees, insurance, tips, and personal spending.
