Why I Created This Expedition
Before visiting Northern Nigeria, I had heard many of the same things most people have. But once I arrived, I realized there was another side that rarely gets shown. I experienced incredible hospitality, rich traditions, vibrant markets, unforgettable food, and one of the most spectacular cultural celebrations anywhere in Africa—the Durbar Festival. Over five unforgettable days, we’ll experience the Durbar Festival together, explore local markets, share meals, meet incredible people, and discover a side of Northern Nigeria that many travelers never get the chance to see. The Durbar Festival is one of West Africa’s most powerful cultural celebrations. It brings together horsemen, royal tradition, music, color, movement, and centuries of history in a way that is hard to explain until you are standing there.
But this is not only about the festival. We will also spend time in markets, neighborhoods, food spots, and daily life moments that help you understand the place beyond the performance.

Day by day in Northern Nigeria
This is the current plan. Small adjustments may happen based on the final Durbar schedule, access, weather, security guidance, or meaningful opportunities.
Airport pickup, hotel check-in, rest, welcome dinner, group briefing, pre Eid activities at night, and an easy introduction to the city.

Experience the main Durbar celebration with royal pageantry, horsemen, traditional dress, music, and one of the most unforgettable cultural scenes in West Africa.
Another Durbar celebration. Visit the palace, Emir and other attractions.
Breakfast, final market stop if timing allows, goodbyes, airport transfers, and onward travel.

Trip minimum: This journey requires a minimum number of confirmed guests to run. If the group does not reach that minimum, The Bearded Expeditions may postpone or cancel the departure. In that case, you will be offered a refund of payments made for this trip or the option to move your booking to a future date.

- Group size: 8–10 guests plus me and local partners.
- Fitness level: you should be comfortable walking, standing at festival events, and moving through busy public spaces.
- Flexibility: plans may adjust based on festival timing, crowds, road conditions, and local guidance.
